ERBIL () - Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia are planning an urgent meeting of their military chiefs as Houthi attacks against Saudi territory and vessels in the Red Sea intensify, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The planned meeting comes as the three countries discuss possible support for Riyadh under their joint defense agreement and condemn attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including areas around Mecca and other Saudi infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Friday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are discussing the possibility of providing support to Riyadh under their joint defense agreement.
The ministry said the three countries condemned attacks that targeted Mecca and Saudi facilities. They also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to respond to the attacks and defend itself.
The statement did not provide further details on the timing or location of the planned meeting of the three countries’ military chiefs.
Houthi attacks against Saudi areas and Saudi vessels in the Red Sea have intensified.
On Thursday, Saudi Civil Defense issued a series of warnings covering several areas of the kingdom, including Mecca, citing threats to those areas before the danger passed.
The Houthis have continued their attacks against Yemen’s government, which is backed by Riyadh, and have repeatedly targeted Saudi territory with missiles and drones.
The escalation has also negatively affected the movement of oil from Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest fuel exporter.
The planned military meeting comes as Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia discuss support for Riyadh under their joint defense agreement, amid continued Houthi attacks against Saudi territory and maritime interests in the Red Sea.
