ERBIL () — A security source informed on Sunday, that the explosion sounded in Erbil was caused by the detonation of explosive remnants and was not the result of a drone, missile, or terrorist attack.
The source said only part of the explosive remnants had been detonated.
Earlier, a loud explosion sounded in Erbil near the headquarters of the Zeravani Peshmerga forces, prompting concern among residents.
Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Region Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) said the explosions sounded across Erbil province were related to military exercises, training, and security activities.
“We assure everyone that the explosions heard today, Sunday, September 20, within Erbil province were the result of military exercises, training, and security activities, and there is no cause for concern,” the CTD said.
The clarification came shortly after the explosion was heard in the city.
