ERBIL () - Erbil Municipality has launched a broad environmental awareness and school beautification campaign aimed at improving the appearance of educational facilities and encouraging students to take greater responsibility for their surroundings as the new academic year begins.
The initiative is being carried out by the Sixth Municipal Directorate of the Erbil Municipality Presidency in cooperation with the Maple Tree organization.
According to reporting, the campaign combines practical improvements to school buildings with environmental and civic-awareness activities intended to preserve the appearance of the city and create more welcoming learning environments for students.
During the first phase, municipal teams and members of the organization began removing graffiti and inappropriate writing from school walls and doors.
The effort is focused on restoring surfaces that had been marked or damaged and improving the overall appearance of schools within the municipality's administrative area.
At the mixed-gender Amid Primary School in Erbil's Newroz neighborhood, teams repainted parts of the school and added patriotic imagery and slogans, including depictions of the Kurdistan flag.
The work is intended not only to improve the physical appearance of the school but also to have a positive effect on students and strengthen awareness of the importance of caring for public spaces.
The campaign coincides with the beginning of the academic year, a period when schools are preparing classrooms and facilities for the return of students.
By pairing maintenance and beautification work with an awareness component, municipal officials are seeking to encourage students to view the school environment as a shared public space that should be protected and kept clean.
The Erbil Municipality Presidency said it has intensified its plans during the current phase of the initiative with the goal of reaching as many schools as possible.
Authorities said environmental and awareness activities would continue throughout the academic year within areas under the municipality's administration.
The campaign is therefore expected to extend beyond the initial work at Amid Primary School and include additional educational institutions as municipal teams expand their activities.
The initiative brings together local government and a civil-society organization around a practical objective: improving school surroundings while promoting greater environmental awareness among students.
