ERBIL () - The Kurdistan Regional Government Council of Ministers will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, with preparations for the new academic year and the Kurdistan Region's position in Iraq's 2027 federal budget forming the two principal items on the agenda.

The first part of the meeting will focus on preparations for the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year.

The KRG ministers of education and higher education and scientific research are expected to present detailed reports outlining the plans and preparations undertaken by their respective ministries ahead of the new academic year.

The presentations will provide the Council of Ministers with an overview of preparations across both the school and higher-education sectors.

The second main item will concern the draft 2027 Iraqi federal budget bill.

A senior KRG delegation will brief the cabinet on the outcome of its meetings with Iraq's federal ministries of finance, oil and planning.

The delegation is expected to present details of the discussions held with those ministries concerning the draft budget and issues related to the Kurdistan Region.

The cabinet will also be briefed on meetings between the KRG delegation and representatives of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi Parliament.

As part of the discussion, ministers will examine data concerning the Kurdistan Region's share of the federal budget based on the results of Iraq's latest census.

The figures and their implications for the Region's budget allocation will be reviewed in detail during the meeting.

Wednesday's session will therefore center on two areas directly involving the KRG's administrative and financial planning: preparations by the education authorities for the approaching academic year and discussions concerning the Kurdistan Region's position within the forthcoming Iraqi federal budget.

The Council of Ministers is expected to review the reports presented by the relevant ministers and the senior KRG delegation during the meeting.
