ERBIL () - Qatar has hosted indirect talks between Iranian and US delegations, with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani saying positive steps were made toward advancing the discussions, while warning that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains unacceptable.
Speaking on Friday, Al Thani said the situation in the Strait of Hormuz was unfavorable and called for an immediate end to the use of international waterways as a means of pressure.
He said Iran was not the only country affected by the situation, adding that countries around the Gulf and the wider international community were also facing its negative consequences.
“The use of waterways to pressure countries and impose hegemony is unacceptable in any way,” Al Thani said.
Al Thani said indirect talks between Iranian and US delegations were held on Thursday, with positive steps taken during the discussions.
He said Doha had observed serious interest from both the Iranian and US sides in achieving significant progress through the talks.
The Qatari prime minister and foreign minister said his country had deployed its diplomatic efforts and capabilities to help return the dialogue process to a genuine course and reduce tensions in the region.
