ERBIL () — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a delegation from the French Senate in Erbil on Tuesday to discuss recent developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as ways to strengthen relations between France and the Kurdistan Region.
The delegation included Nicole Duranton, Chair of the French-Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Rémi Féraud, senator for Paris, and Olivier Bitz, senator for Orne.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the latest political and regional developments and discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and France.
The French delegation highlighted the longstanding relations and friendship between France and the Kurdistan Region, reaffirming that the Kurdistan Region is a trusted partner of France.
Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for the continued support provided by the French government and people, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The meeting also addressed the need to activate the Kurdistan Parliament and the formation of a new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, according to the statement.
France has maintained longstanding political, security, humanitarian, and economic ties with the Kurdistan Region and has been a key partner in efforts to counter ISIS and support regional stability.
The relationship has also included cooperation between French and Kurdish institutions and continued high-level political exchanges.
