ERBIL () - An ISIS attack on electricity transmission infrastructure disrupted the main power line linking Haditha and Baiji, after militants targeted transmission towers along the route, a security source said Friday evening.

According to the source, the attack resulted in the destruction of an electricity transmission tower in the area between Haditha and Baiji.

Saad Ghazi Mohammed, head of the Security Committee at the Anbar Provincial Council, said early Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, that the main electricity line connecting the two cities had been cut.

Ghazi Mohammed said preliminary information confirmed that an electricity transmission tower had been blown up.

The incident targeted a key transmission line connecting Haditha in Anbar province and Baiji in Salahaddin province.

On the same night, another security source said security forces thwarted an attempt by ISIS militants to target another electricity transmission tower in the area between Baiji in Salahaddin province and Haditha in Anbar province.

The source said security forces intervened quickly and disrupted the attack before the militants could reach their intended target.

The attempted attack resulted in an armed clash between security forces and ISIS militants.
