ERBIL () - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Axel Wech on Sunday congratulating him on his appointment as the new Ambassador of Austria to Iraq and reaffirming the Kurdistan Regional Government's full support for his diplomatic mission.
"I congratulated Ambassador Axel Wech on his appointment as the new Ambassador of Austria to Iraq,"Prime Minister Barzani said. "I reaffirmed the KRG's full support for his diplomatic mission and wished him success in his work."
Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Austria, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening these relations going forward. Ambassador Wech expressed Austria's readiness to further develop and deepen its relations with the Kurdistan Region across various sectors.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments and situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region, as well as matters of mutual interest.
Austria has maintained a consistent relationship with the Kurdistan Region throughout the post-ISIS period, contributing to humanitarian, educational, and diplomatic engagement in the Region. The reception of a new Austrian ambassador by Prime Minister Barzani reflects the continued importance both sides place on the bilateral relationship at a moment when the Kurdistan Region's international partnerships carry heightened significance given the regional security environment generated by the seven-month US-Iran conflict.
