ERBIL () - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s Office of the Coordinator for International Advocacy on Saturday commended for taking practical steps to strengthen access to news and information for people with disabilities and those with special needs.
The office said the use of sign language in television programs and news broadcasts is among international recommendations and commitments in the field of disability rights, aimed at ensuring equal access to information and media content for all members of society.
As part of the KRG's plan to implement human rights recommendations, the Office of the Coordinator for International Recommendations has issued specific measures aimed at advancing access to information for people with disabilities.
In coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Youth, television channels have also been asked to use sign language when presenting their news and programs.
Against this backdrop, the office praised for taking a practical step toward implementing the recommendation by incorporating sign language into its news broadcasts.
The office said the move plays an important role in providing broader and more equal access to information for people with disabilities.
The Office of the Coordinator for International Recommendations expressed hope that the initiative would become a successful and encouraging example for other media outlets across the Kurdistan Region.
It called on other channels to take similar steps and contribute to ensuring equal access to news and information for all citizens.
The office also emphasized that the participation and cooperation of media institutions are a key part of implementing international human rights recommendations and creating a broader and more equitable environment for access to information.
