ERBIL () — President Masoud Barzani received Russia’s Consul General in Erbil, Maxim Rubin, on Wednesday, as the diplomat concluded his tenure in the Kurdistan Region.
According to a statement from Barzani’s headquarters, Rubin visited President Barzani to bid farewell at the end of his assignment. He expressed appreciation for President Barzani’s role in promoting friendship and relations between the peoples of the Kurdistan Region and Russia.
Rubin described his experience working in the Kurdistan Region as exemplary, thanking President Barzani and the region’s institutions for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure.
He also said the Kurdistan Region holds a special position for Russia and has long been important to Iraq’s political dynamics and those of the wider region.
For his part, President Barzani thanked Rubin for his efforts to develop bilateral relations and wished him success in his future duties.
The two sides also stressed the historic and longstanding friendship between the peoples of the Kurdistan Region and Russia and the importance of continuing to strengthen their relations.
