ERBIL () - Kurdistan Region Education Minister Alan Hama Saeed said on Sept. 20 that the prime minister's vision for supporting the education sector has been clear and evident, describing support for education as one of the ninth cabinet's priorities. He spoke at a ceremony announcing the handover of 36 government kindergarten and school buildings to the Ministry of Education.

Working together, Saeed said, they have managed to improve the education sector's infrastructure somewhat. He added that despite the difficult circumstances the cabinet has faced, 629 new classrooms have been built in educational institutions, bringing the total to 4,969 rooms. As promised at the start of the cabinet's term, new places have been created for 125,000 students.

Over the past seven years and two months, the minister said, the ninth cabinet has carried out a series of important projects with the help of businesspeople, donors, and organizations. Among them are the creation of new places for nearly 125,000 students across the Kurdistan Region and the renovation of 3,075 schools. The cabinet also printed 19 million textbooks and delivered them to all educational institutions on time and to the required standards.

On the digitization of education, Saeed said the Ministry of Education has taken several important steps. They include launching the e-education system and the "My School"platform, as well as opening Innovation Labs in 110 schools to develop students' abilities.

Speaking further, the minister said that under the ministry's teacher training strategy, 145,000 teachers took training courses this year in digital skills, artificial intelligence, the environment, and how to work with students with special needs.
