ERBIL () — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Thursday that the Region’s share of Iraq’s 2027 federal budget must not be less than 14.14%, adding that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has officially rejected any lower allocation.
Speaking on Thursday, Prime Minister Barzani in a press conference addressed the Kurdistan Region’s share in the draft 2027 federal budget law, saying the 14.14% figure was based on the latest census.
“We have reiterated that the Kurdistan Region’s share, according to the census, is 14.14%,” Barzani said.
He added that the figure does not include Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administration, saying the percentage would have been higher if those areas had been included.
“No percentage lower than this is fair, and we have officially rejected it on behalf of the Council of Ministers,” Barzani said.
Asked by about the formation of the new KRG cabinet, Barzani said the government was ready to proceed whenever the political parties were ready.
“Whenever the parties are ready to form the government, we are ready,” he said.
